I had the honor to meet the amazing Dr. Jane Goodall yesterday in the Botanic Gardens in Berlin-Dahlem and hand her her portrait. I am still totally excited that I could talk to her about my illustration project for the Berlin Underground Station Hermannstraße. After so much time spent with all kinds of endangered species I was extremely happy to meet one of the most influent persons who dedicated their life to the research and the protection of the animals i portrayed in that project. I asked Dr. Goodall to either keep the painting or eventually sell it to raise money for her organization which would both make me feel totally honored. Thanks for your visit to Berlin, Dr. Goodall!

She even wore a similar shirt as in the portrait – what a surprise!

I just received some pictures from Spain, where the tiles with my illustrations of the endangered animals of Hermannstrasse Station, Berlin are produced. Ceracasa, the tiles manufacturer in Valencia is doing an amazing job. Most of the murals are constructed here in Berlin, already. However, I am looking forward to the missing parts a lot – 4 large murals, that I am still waiting for. Two of them are being produced right now and I have been especially excited about them, because they are the only ones that include text and info graphics too. So the passengers of Berlin Metro will be able to learn about the 85 endangered species, shown in the illustrations. The names of the animals will be shown in German, Latin and English. A short introduction is printed in English and German.

„Endangered Jungle“ as a concept of redesigned Berlin Underground station „Hermanstrasse“ is dedicated to the threatened habitat of the tropical rainforests.
The large scaled illustrations that I worked on for a period of about 12 months now are going to continuously cover 36 tiled columns and walls of the platform, showing a sequence of distinct geographical zones of tropical rainforests around the globe, together with their smaller or larger inhabitants. During changing trains or the time spent waiting on the platform, passengers are invited to meet over 80 different endangered species shown in more than 150 single portraits – such as parrots, birds of paradise, monkeys and apes, antelopes or big cats – an occasion to take a pause and go for an expedition in the urban jungle.
